Credit Bureaus are empowered with governmental authority. Credit bureaus have no legal authority at all !  They are private companies in the business of selling information about you! Credit bureaus are required by law to keep negative items on your record 7 years. Just the opposite is true!  Credit bureaus are required by law to immediately remove any item they cannot verify (but you have to make them), and they must automatically REMOVE all negative items older than 7 years (10 in the case of a bankruptcy). It is impossible to get a bankruptcy off YOUR RECORD. Bankruptcies can be deleted just like any other information that is incorrectly reported, obsolete, erroneous, misleading, incomplete, or cannot be verified. Remember, the nature of the item has nothing to do with its removal under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The information on your credit report cannot be changed. Again, the opposite is true!  Federal and many state laws REQUIRE that items be removed if they are not 100% accurate or cannot be verified in a timely manner.  It's the LAW and it's on YOUR SIDE! It is illegal or immoral to have the information on your credit report altered or removed. Nonsense!  This is what the Fair Credit Reporting Act is all about!  It was enacted to protect consumers from the intrusion of the credit bureaus into our lives. Paying a past-due debt removes it from your credit report. Just because you pay an old debt does not change the fact that you were late paying it - and credit bureaus can report that fact.  But the record CAN be changed! Inquiries are not derogatory and will not affect your credit standing. In the case of inquiries about your record, if several inquiries are made by potential lenders in a short time, it will appear that you are desperate for credit.  Potential credit grantors may think you are suddenly borrowing from many sources … and may be unwilling to lend to you. If you get a negative item removed, it will just come back. NOT if it is removed legally!  When a negative item is removed with cause under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Credit Bureau CANNOT legally put it back on your credit report!  That's the law! Your past equals your future. This is the biggest myth of all!  Anyone can experience hard times or emergencies now and then, but that doesn’t mean they should be considered poor credit risks for 7 years. No credit report can predict YOUR future! I can't repair my credit report myself. Yes, you can!  You can do it, and all of the information you need is right here!
